Swedish homeschoolers ask for our help
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 11:15AM Homeschooling in Sweden has always been legal, but it is a little-used option there. However I've been contacted by individual Swedish homeschoolers and a Swedish homeschooling group in recent days because there is now serious legislation that will make homeschooling illegal in all but "extraordinary circumstances." Swedish officials have refused to publicly define what those circumstances may be. Further, the law also affects alternative schools by forcing them to teach the national curriculum as the primary focus of their efforts, making their philosophical and methodological differences with standarized curricula inconsequential with the stroke of a pen.

Please consider the depth and speed of education at home where a parent can see their own childs strengths and weaknesses and teach them at a fair pace in those weak areas. Somethimes in a classroom the child with the weak math, lang., science skills has to just be left behind to move others forward. On the other hand those students that excel in a subject can't move forward in the classroom setting because to do so would leave the entire rest of the class behind. Homeschool give the parent the choice to move as quickly or as methodically as the student needs "to learn the subject." If you have ever been left behind in a classroom setting let homeschool remain in place. Thank you ! Sincerely, Sheila Sisco
